This past week has been ROUGH with Scully’s recovery, he’s had a setback that hopefully we are through the worst of now and even with a double dose of sedatives is still kicking up a fuss and trying to move too much. But I’d just like to take this time to appreciate Mulder.

He has been so patient through it all, not caring about being left in the house while we take Scully for his wee’s, being gentle with Scully and coping with far less attention and far less walks too. He has been an all round good boy!

This photo was taken a few weeks ago while we went round Elan Valley when the weather wasn’t quite as sweltering!

I 100% support adoption and love seeing rescue pets find amazing homes. But I also believe that ethical breeding and adoption can coexist. I chose a responsible breeder who prioritizes health, temperament, and lifelong support—not a puppy mill or backyard breeder. Ethically bred dogs do not end up in shelters and do not contribute to overcrowding of shelters.

Ethical breeders help preserve breeds and prevent health issues through careful, informed practices. They can provide people with purpose bred dogs for work. Let’s focus our energy on fighting neglect and irresponsible breeding, not judging each other for making thoughtful, choices. We’re all on the same side—caring for animals.

I have received tons of hateful comments regarding my choice to support ethical breeding through owning a Kooikerhondje, but I will continue to support ethical breeding and adopt or shop responsibly. My dog is not an accessory to me, I did not get him for aesthetics. I chose a breed that I knew would suit my lifestyle and that I knew would have a temperament I could deal with.
